Description of Services BenefitsCheckup is the nation's most comprehensive online service to screen for federal, state and some local private and public benefits for older adults (ages 55 and over). It contains over 1,450 different programs from all fifty states (including the District of Columbia). On average there are 50 to 70 programs available to individuals per state. In addition to identifying the programs that a person may be eligible to receive, Benefits Checkup also provides a detailed description of the programs, local contacts for additional information (typically the addresses and phone numbers of where to apply for the programs), and materials to help successfully apply for each program. BenefitsCheckUp was developed to address a concerning problem: millions of older adults are eligible for benefits, but not receiving them. Ranging from health coverage to supplemental income to help in paying utility bills, there are millions of older adults who could benefit from a wide array of public programs if they knew about them and how to apply for them. Description of Services Rental Issues Bethesda Project Inc. counselors provide assistance to renters, including what to look for in a rental home. Landlord, tenant rights and responsibilities are also explained. Homebuyers Club Bethesda Project Inc. holds monthly meetings where parents of school-aged children can work with a counselor to implement a plan for homeownership! Life Skills Self-sufficiency education programs provide an understanding as to the importance of managing life - including family, fun, career and financial management. Budget Counseling This class stresses the importance of budgeting and the savings process by working with an individual to develop a realistic budget that includes a consistent pattern of saving. Credit Counseling Bethesda Project Inc. counselors work with the client to develop a plan of action for clearing up past credit issues while maintaining current credit. Foreclosure Counseling Bethesda Project Inc counselors will work with you and provide alternatives to foreclosure by assisting homeowners in evaluating their financial status and helping them work with lenders to establish a forbearance agreement Pre-Purchase Counseling Bethesda Project Inc. counselors will provide information on the home buying process, including credit and budgeting, selection of a REALTOR®, mortgage products and the closing process Post-Purchase Counseling Bethesda Project Inc. counselors will provide information on home maintenance, budget and finances to prevent foreclosure.
